The St. Thomas/St. John Vianny Prayer Shawl Ministry was formed in 2014. We have distributed more than 400 shawls and lap blankets to parishioners who requested a gift for a loved one. The Prayer Shawl Ministry meets on the 2nd Thursday of the month at 7:00 pm in the St. Thomas the Apostle Classrooms.
Completed shawls are blessed at one of the weekend Masses. In addition to shawls, we also make prayer squares, which are pocket size squares designed to remind you of God’s love during the day. We also make smaller prayer blankets used for lap or wheelchair.
These items are available for anyone. Generally, the requests are for someone who is ill, but requests can also be made for someone getting married, welcoming a new child or sending a loved one off to college. Many recipients have sent warm notes and cards telling us how much they feel God’s love and appreciate the blessed gift.
PRAYER is an important element of this ministry. We save the names of those who have received a gift. We offer prayers at our meeting. When the list is updated, it is sent to member to continue with prayers either when they are crafting or during routine prayers.
There is no charge; however, donations are always welcome. To request a shawl, lap blanket, or prayer square, complete the form in the Narthex of either church and place back into basket, or send an email to [email protected], or fill out the online request form.
